Charnell shares, "It's a funny story, I was busy making supper for my husband and myself when I cried out to God about things I wanted but hadn't seen happen in my life yet. I became emotional and frustrated with the process the Lord was taking me on. That's when I heard the Lord say, 'I'm faithful to my promises to you.'"
This divine moment of inspiration led Charnell to make a voice recording of her feelings, which she shared with Collective Records' President Hilton Petersen and the label's Musical Director Brandon “Bobby” George. They enthusiastically encouraged her to write a song based on her heartfelt experience, which gave birth to the Koortjie, "STAAN VAS." which has already become hit on the stage
The song now mirrors Charnell's personal journey of self-discovery and finding strength during difficult times. She explains, "During those moments when I grapple with self-doubt and seek motivation to persevere, this song reminds me that God Himself assured me that His promises to me are Yes and Amen."
"STAAN VAS" encapsulates the idea of standing firm in God's promises, even when the fulfillment takes time. Charnell explains, "We have the assurance of the promise, but we also encourage ourselves to stand firm even if it hasn't manifested in the natural yet. God's word is always 'yes' and 'amen,' and He never speaks without fulfilling it. So, we have the assurance, but the process might take a bit longer. We must stand and keep standing firm."
With "STAAN VAS," Charnell Joseph hopes to inspire and uplift listeners, assuring them that God is faithful to His promises. She prays that this song will bless a new generation and instill deep confidence that God's faithfulness endures.

Charnell Joseph is a name that resonates with countless fans who have followed her on platforms like YouTube and Facebook, but her journey is not just about music; it's also a testament to her deep love for Jesus and the unique musical genre known as "Koortjies."
Born into a close-knit community in Slangrivier along the Garden Route, Charnell Joseph first discovered her vocal talents at the tender age of 12 when she began singing in her local church. It was here that her love for gospel music and Koortjies, a style of South African gospel music characterised by its harmonious and joyful melodies, took root. Her soulful voice and unwavering devotion to Christ soon caught the attention of her church congregation, and Charnell quickly became a beloved fixture in the local worship scene.
At the age of 16, driven by a profound desire to share her faith and music with a wider audience, Charnell took a bold step and recorded her first album, "Probeer Hom 'n Keer." This album was a labour of love, showcasing her distinctive Koortjies style. Although it was never released digitally, she sold copies of the CD by hand, leaving an indelible mark on her community.
Charnell's path took a turn when Hilton Petersen, founder of The Jesus Collective (TJC) team and President of Collective Records, discovered her YouTube performances. Impressed by her talent and devotion, Hilton tracked her down in Beauford West, where she resides. In 2021, Charnell officially joined TJC, marking a significant milestone in her music career. She signed a record deal with Collective Records, and her debut single, "Staan Vas," written by Charnell herself, is highly anticipated, reflecting her deep faith and musical skills.
